Masterpoints

THE MASTERPOINT SCHEME

The masterpoint scheme is controlled and administered by NZ Bridge Inc.  The purposes of the scheme are:

Master-Point Awards: The majority of games, both club and tournament level at affiliated clubs, are played for masterpoints. If you finish in the top one third of your field, you will receive masterpoints. There are three categories of Master-Point Awards:

A Points awarded to players who finish in the top placings of approved tournaments, and to all session winners of pairs tournaments approved for the award of A-points.

B Points awarded to players who finish in the top placings of approved tournaments, which do not qualify for the award of A-points, and to all session winners of pairs tournaments approved for the award of B-points. B-points are not convertible to A-points.

C Points awarded to players who are successful in any session of play organised by a licensed club or NZ Bridge Inc. Our club sessions award C-points. 100 C-points convert to one B-point.

Rating Points

Rating points provide some measure of recent success and are used to access eligibility for graded tournaments.

Rating points are calculated as follows:

Previous rating points x 0.8, plus the total A and B points earned in the immediate past year.

The calculation is currently done at 31st December each year and the new rating points come into force on the 1st January. Rating points may go up or down.

Master-Point Records

Lists of master points awarded at all our club sessions and tournaments are sent regularly to NZ Bridge Inc.  Anyone may access their master points on the NZ Bridge website: www.nzbridge.co.nz
